Advanced Pharmacist Clinical Education

Band 8a

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our pharmacy Clinical Education team, to develop & deliver training programmes in our department & the Trust.

We work with four partner universities to deliver high quality placements for undergraduates & your focus would be to manage & deliver these, with the support of the team & department.

You would also contribute to our plans to teach prescribing to trainee pharmacists from 2025, acting as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner & developing others into that role. We work closely with our Advanced Practice Lead to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to this. You do not need three years' prescribing experience but to be actively prescribing - we'll get you going for 2025!

And there'll be other education activities!

We are proud that our Trust is supporting us towards these new training developments, which highlights its commitment to staff development & to pharmacy. This is a fixed term contract.

The role will be cross site, supporting learners at Peterborough City & Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.

The post-holder will work as part of a well-established, multi-professional pharmacy team within a large NHS Trust which provides a broad range of pharmacy services. You will participate in dispensary rotas (currently around three hours weekly) & the weekend service (currently three weekends yearly).

Please contact Alyson Winter, Principal Pharmacist Clinical Education, via [email protected] if you’d like to arrange an informal discussion.

Main duties of the job

You will be a vital contributor at mid-management level for the pharmacy service in our busy Trust and one of two advanced pharmacists in the Clinical Education team.

You will:

Work to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s (RPS) Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum, with a focus on its Education Pillar.

This includes:

Take professional responsibility for the development and provision of a comprehensive education service to the pharmacy department and the Trust (for medicines safety and optimisation) to meet their goals, jointly with other members of the Clinical Education team.

Manage and deliver undergraduate placements for the department.

Act as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner to train prescribers.

Act as line manager to a trainee pharmacist.

Provide expert clinical and service information to the pharmacy senior management team to support departmental service development and strategic planning.

Working for our organisation

We are committed to ensure a work-life balance to all our staff by offering full time and part time roles, flexible working hours on a shift pattern to fit around your family life.

We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from disabled, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) and candidates form our local communities.

Benefits to you
•    27 days annual leave for new starters, rising to 29 days after five years of service and 33 days after 10 years of service, plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro-rata for part time staff);
•    NHS Pension Scheme:
•    Flexible working opportunities;
•    Increased hourly rates for unsociable hours e.g. night shifts, weekends, bank holidays;
•    Career development and training;
•    Wellbeing support and activities;
•    In-house physiotherapy Service;
•    On-site canteens with subsidised meals;
•    Subsidised staff parking (currently free).
•    Free Stagecoach Bus Travel to and from work within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
