Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the stroke therapy service at Peterborough City Hospital. The overall stroke pathway comprises of a HASU and ASU at Peterborough City Hospital and acute beds at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The position is mainly at Peterborough City Hospital however flexibility will be required to provide cross-site cover.

The successful applicant will manage a varied and complex clinical caseload and be able to provide person-centred evidence-based stroke rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the supervision, development and training of students, registered staff and support workers. They will also be involved in service development and clinical audit. Regular supervision, training and development opportunities will be provided to ensure personal career development. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required. There will be a practical element to the interview so candidates will need to be available to attend for a face to face interview at Peterborough City Hospital.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure safe, efficient and effective delivery of patient focussed care in line with identified evidence based practice, local and national standards
  • To work collaboratively within Multidisciplinary and Multi-agency Teams
  • To participate in delegated projects for service development with the team
  • To act autonomously in the assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have a complex presentation
  • To demonstrate a flexible approach to working in support of the whole in patient/out patient team
  • To undertake weekend working as required within service developments
  • To be available to provide Clinical Supervision
  • This role entails 80% Clinical Contact and 20% Operational Management as appropriate within team requirements
  • To guide Band 5 and support staff in the management and delivery of therapeutic care plans

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in either PT or OT
  • HCPC Registered
Desirable criteria
  • CSP member
  • Member of ACPIN

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide variety rotations through core clinical areas as a Band 5
  • Band 5 / 6 Experience in Acute Stroke Care
  • NHS Acute Hospital Experience
Desirable criteria
  • Band 6 Stroke Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical knowledge in clinical conditions associated with Stroke /sound level in theoretical knowledge of acute stroke care
  • Basic knowledge of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in use of basic IT system for data recording

Key Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to work as a team member and independently
  • Good Clinical Reasoning skills
  • Ability to present information in logical concise manner
