Clinical Systems Co-Ordinator - Diagnostic Imaging

Job overview

  • To lead, review and develop working practices to ensure the delivery of efficient and responsive clinical systems which meet the performance requirements of the department and wider Trust.
  • To be actively involved with the planning, development and implementation of clinical systems in Diagnostic Imaging (DI) encompassing new initiatives, policies and procedural changes and processes.
  • To ensure the service is responsive to the needs of patients and clinical teams by providing prompt technical advice to all local and Trust users, supporting the site based  administrators for complex issues for clinical systems in DI.
  • Provide technical leadership within Diagnostic Imaging and serve as the key liaison between system suppliers, users, managers, IT department and other stakeholders.
  • To be the key internal link for the clinical systems in DI and link between DI clinical systems staff, clinical teams and operational staff to ensure consistency and standardisation relating to systems processes.
  • To work with the Clinical Systems Manager (CSM) & Imaging Performance and Systems Lead (IPSL) to achieve relevant performance targets and to coordinate relevant service development projects for Diagnostic Imaging pertinent to the clinical systems in the department.
  • The role will have a particular focus on PACS and RIS, however, support with other systems will be required as necessary.

Main duties of the job

Management & Leadership

  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of staff training packages relating to DI clinical systems.
  • Produce electronic training manuals and implement a training programme updating information on a regular basis.
  • Be proactive and effective in the identification and resolution of poor performance relating to system issues and provide support when necessary.

 Service Delivery, Financial & Risk Management

  • To take a lead on implementing Trust policies and procedures relating to clinical systems within Diagnostic Imaging. To instigate and produce any new policies and procedures that may be required.
  • To be a key contributor in the procurement of clinical systems and related projects.
  • To work closely with the IPSL and CSM to ensure all performance targets are monitored and action plans are in place to address concerns.
  • To work closely with the clinical teams and assist with changes pertinent to the clinical systems in DI.

 Strategic, Development & Modernisation

  • Maintain knowledge of national and local targets and implement guidelines. Work closely with Clinical Business Unit managers and Trust staff, as well as external agencies to ensure targets are met.
  • Receive and produce performance reports and present them as required.
  • Actively lead and participate in the planning and development of the service.
  • Undertake reviews of working practices to respond and adapt to the changing needs of Diagnostic Imaging.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level or equivalent
  • Degree or equivalent level of experience
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL
  • Project Management qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of CRIS, PACS, Sunquest Ice and Microsoft XP operating system
  • Knowledge of NHS information and reporting systems
  • Understanding of classification of patient related activity within the NHS
  • NHS / public sector experience and knowledge
  • Knowledge & understanding of the Data Protection Act
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of national and local NHS targets and initiatives

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of using PACS/CRIS
  • Experience of implementing policies and procedures
  • Proven experience of meeting targets and deadlines
  • Experience in technical or application support role / skills
  • Able to use information and produce reports to assist in the preparation of business cases for service development
  • External system admin training by PACS/RIS provider
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using NHS systems e.g. E-track and Ice
  • Previous management experience within a healthcare environment
