Living Well, Caring Well, Working Together

Job overview

The successful candidate will work alongside the Specialist Registrar and Nurse Practitioners to deliver in-patient, ambulatory and out-patient care to haematology patients. You will have opportunity to work across both aspects of transplantation / CART and general haematology.

Cardiff and Vale haematology provides secondary services, including treatment of malignant and non-malignant disease, to the population of Cardiff and Vale and a tertiary haematology service to the southern Health Boards.

Inpatient haematology care includes all inpatient chemotherapy, cellular therapy and complication management of disease or treatment consequences. Patients under 25 years are predominantly treated on the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit.

The South Wales Blood and Marrow Transplant (SWBMT) Programme is a JACIE accredited programme which incorporates adult, teenage/young adult and paediatric services on the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) site and an adult autologous service at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. The catchment area accounts for 77% of the Welsh population and spans 6 of 7 Welsh Local Health Boards, encompassing the South Wales Cancer Network (SWCN). The clinical programme is supported by a collection, processing and storage facility on the UHW site and holds an HTA license.

Main duties of the job

BMT/CART

There is a dedicated BMT specialist registrar on a 6 monthly rotation attached to the BMT/CART programme responsible for in-patient, out-patient and day centre activity. In addition, funding is approved through the Wales Deanery rotation for a senior BMT specialist registrar post, which is filled according to interest by trainees. A comprehensive training programme covering the core aspects of BMT is provided by BMT consultants during the rotation. The post holder will work alongside the BMT SpR.

General Haematology
One Specialist Registrar is allocated to provide in-patient cover for patients on B4 Haematology, Teenage Cancer Trust Unit and Ambulatory Care Unit. The post holder will work alongside the Specialist Registrars and share responsibility of the oversight of the management of in-patient, day case and outpatients. Clinical fellows are included in training opportunities where appropriate
