Job overview
Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Histopathologist to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of supportive Cellular Pathology Consultant colleagues based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The post is available for a fixed-term of six months and offers the opportunity to develop exciting sub-specialty interests and potential opportunities for research and teaching.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary for this post is £121,264 per annum.
Applicants should preferably either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within three months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview and have passed part 2 of the FRCPath.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the job
The appointee would have interests in some of: breast pathology, head and neck, uropathology, lymphoreticular and pulmonary pathology. The post would suit either a first-time Consultant or an established Consultant Histopathologist wishing to relocate. There is no cervical cytology requirement. Together we will provide and develop a wide-ranging cellular pathology service to primary, secondary and tertiary care colleagues.
The appointee will take a lead role in the development of specialist diagnostic techniques to meet the increasing demands of clinical users and will participate in the training of specialty trainees, scientific and BMS staff.
