Job overview
A vacancy has arisen for a Fixed Term Specialty Training post (FTSA) in Neurology at Registrar level (STRL) within the Neurology department based at the University Hospital of Wales. The post is for a 3-month fixed term period (6th May 2026 to 4th August 2026).
The successful candidate will receive training at a tertiary neuroscience centre working on the neurology ward and the neurology day unit. The department also incudes a neurosciences research unit and an epilepsy video-telemetry suite. There will be exposure to a range of acute and long-term neurological conditions while being full supported by an appropriate senior team.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide specialist care to neurological patients at the University Hospital of Wales. This includes providing ward cover Monday to Friday, 9-5, supporting the Neurological Day Unit to ensure patients are consented and receive their regular treatments, manageing ward referrals and attending Outpatient clinics with consultants.
There will also be opportunities to be involved in teaching, research and audit projects.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
Desirable criteria
- Intercalated Degree
- MSc or PhD
- Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Fulfils entry for IMT Training
- Evidence of participation in Research and Clinical Governance
Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience in Neurology
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
- Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
