Cardiff, the thriving Welsh capital has something for everyone. At its heart sits Cardiff Castle with 2000 years of history. Nearby stands the Principality Stadium, home of the Welsh Rugby Union and host to International sporting events. Cardiff also boasts a variety of theatres and live music venues. Furthermore, there’s Cardiff Bay with a range of new apartments, bars and restaurants.

The Vale of Glamorgan offers a combination of beautiful Welsh countryside and a dramatic natural coastline, including the famed Glamorgan Heritage Coast. Cowbridge, Penarth and Llantwit Major are some of the charming neighbouring towns.

Those seeking more culture may find themselves drawn to the National Museum, St Fagans Museum of Welsh Life or the Millennium Centre, home of the Welsh National Opera.

Whether city life or rural living, Cardiff and the Vale offers the best of both worlds.

Role is fixed term Band 6 to allow successful candidate to meet planned competencies necessary for independent practice. When achieved opportunity will be available for them to apply for the Band 7 post.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to take up the position of Trainee Vascular Nurse Practitioner in the new South East Wales Vascular Network (SEWVN).

Due to changes in the region, vascular services will now be centralised at the major arterial centre (MAC) which will be based at the University Hospital of Wales and consist of 11 Consultant Vascular Surgeons and 36 dedicated in- patient beds. Vascular patients from surrounding health-boards including Aneurin Bevan, Cwm Taff Morgannwg and Powys will now be treated at the Cardiff and Vale UHB alongside our local patients. This will see an increase in capacity for all aspects of the service including emergency and elective streams, theatre cases, out-patient clinics and expanding ward capacity on Ward B2. There will also be vascular services in Spoke hospitals within local UHB’s running parallel services such as out-patient clinics and review of in -patient referrals prior to transfer into the MAC.

As a VNP you would actively participate in daily ward rounds working closely with the medical and nursing teams and the wider MDT.  The VNP would be allocated between covering both the elective and emergency streams of vascular patients.

As part of the emergency stream the consultant of the week team will be supported by a SCP/CNS/VNP. This would involve the assessment of vascular patients in SAU/SDEC, arranging necessary investigations and clerking of the patients. As part of the emergency stream cover, the VNP would also attend the hot clinic and review acute ward referrals alongside the surgical team, ensuring all patients have a clear plan of care.

When covering the elective stream, the VNP will be based on the vascular ward and support ward staff with unwell high acuity patients many of which will have multiple co morbidities and complex medical needs as well as offering extended clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and male/female urinary catheterisation.

The VNP role will require a high level of communication not only between healthcare professionals based at the MAC but also the surrounding hospitals for the prompt transfer in of acute vascular patients and the repatriation of patients once their acute vascular treatment has been completed.

This is an evolving and dynamic role which will develop alongside the new centralised service and the successful candidate will be supported by the current in post vascular Surgical Care Practitioner, Vascular Nurse Specialist and Ward Manager as well as the Vascular Consultants.

.The role would entail working 12 hour day shift and the ability to work regular  weekends is essential.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
