Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated leader who will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise when leading and advising the many teams on the specific needs Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Cancer across Wales, based at the Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) for Wales, Cardiff. You will need excellent communication, interpersonal skills, expert knowledge of TYA cancers and the ability to work sensitively and collaboratively with diverse teams
The PTC hosts a nurse led inpatient ward, day and ambulatory care facility for TYA cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and cellular therapy treatment. The post holder will provide expert clinical nursing leadership, support, education and professional leadership to all staff
Working closely with the TYA Lead Clinician, the post holder will lead the development of excellence and work alongside Network cancer leads, third sector organisations, specialist commissioners and local clinical teams; providing advice, service planning and strategic decision making for TYA cancer services in Wales.
In conjunction with the Teenage Cancer Trust, they will lead service improvement in line with evidence and national policy, ensuring excellent standards.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The overriding purpose of the Senior Nurse (SN) role is to provide professional, clinical leadership and support for all nursing staff within the TYA and the wider Directorate within Haematology.
· Act as an expert advisor
· Strategically represent TYA
· Ensure the TYA cancer workforce can competently meet national/ regional targets
· Work to develop new models of service delivery
· Work in partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust
· Provide professional advice, leadership and support
· Work clinically (20%) on a regular basis, demonstrating expert clinical practice, professional competence, authority and credibility
· Co-ordinate the nursing elements for peer review visits / self-assessment
· Develop strategies, with the Lead Nurse/Lead Cancer Nurses, to ensure that the provision of patient care is of a consistently high standard across the Health Board
· Collaborate with referring centres to ensure a coordinated approach for patients.
· Participate with service providers in the development and prioritisation of bids to secure funding for cancer services in line with the cancer strategy and needs of TYA with cancer
· Provide a yearly annual report

The teenage and young adult service (TYA) is the Principle Treatment Centre for Wales, and across Wales. Post-holders will be responsible for all elements of the nursing services. The overriding purpose of the Senior Nurse (SN) role is to provide professional, clinical leadership and support for all nursing staff within the TYA. The postholder will:
· Work closely with the Lead Clinician, to lead on the development of excellence in nursing care for TYA with cancer.
· Act as an expert advisor to the Cancer Networks, specialist commissioners and local clinical teams; providing leadership, nursing advice, service planning and be involved in strategic decision making in line with cancer strategies
· Strategically represent TYA locally, regionally and nationally, providing expertise to planning groups for TYA cancer services, ensuring TYAs are engaged, and their voice is heard, and play a key role in the development of integrated care by streamlining care across organisational boundaries
· Ensure the TYA cancer workforce can competently meet national/ regional need with the in line with national recommendations and measures where available
· Work collaboratively with colleagues of all disciplines within the national and regional network, including the university and other relevant providers of education to ensure the integration of education, research and practice development.
· Contribute to the provision of healthcare to the Health Board’s and Welsh TYA population, managing, developing and directing the nursing and clinical workforce within
· Work to develop new models of service delivery in line with Welsh Assembly Government (WG) policies and strategic direction, advancing the development and practice
· Work in partnership with Teenage Cancer Trust, liaising with the Director of Services and Impact within the Teenage Cancer Trust providing data, written reports and act in an advisory capacity as required
· Contribute to and lead parts of a multimedia communication strategy for patients, patient's network and professionals including the development and provision of patient information
· Support Teenage Cancer Trust’s Wales fundraising events when required and establish key working relationships with stakeholders in other Principal Treatment Centres, network care providers in all areas; primary, secondary and third sectors

· Provide a yearly annual report of all activity (clinical and non-clinical) in April for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Principle Treatment Centre annual report.
