COVID-19 Vacancy Senior Solutions Architect

Band 8a

The role of Senior Solutions Architect is an exciting opportunity to join the national digital team within the NHS to lead on the design and build of next generation services and platform tooling. You will be integral to supporting care for 3.1 million citizens of Wales. Digital Health and Care Wales needs forward thinking and enthusiastic architects that see the wide-angle view, the possibilities of emerging digital technologies and a desire to make a difference for clinicians and patients alike.

Digital health architecture is changing. Emerging standards for interoperability and data persistence are moving the emphasis away from siloed applications and traditional database design into facilitating ubiquitous data flow across the enterprise. The value of digital care is determined upon how safe and accessible it is for clinicians to use. This requires appropriately governed access to data with technologies such as HL7 FHIR, openEHR and SNOMED CT becoming cornerstones of this evolution to the open platform.

In varied environments, you will work with external technology suppliers, licensed software as well as innovative in-house software development. You will be joining and supporting a range of projects from greenfield innovation through to mature clinical and health management systems. The role is a vital asset to your immediate multi-disciplinary team members, as well as those in other departments and Health Boards.

  • You will be adept at working in a range of environments, dealing with suppliers and customers across a varied digital landscape.
  • You will deliver designs for modern, multi-tiered software applications, and their underlying services with robust use cases, user stories and a range of architectural approaches.
  • You will have experience of industry standard architectural paradigms and technical business process analysis.
  • You will be adept at modelling health care data objects and processes using UML, openEHR etc, and using tooling such as Enterprise Architect.
  • You will demonstrate a thorough practical track-record of working across the full software lifecycle and have demonstrable experience of owning technical projects.
  • You are a digital innovator, able to prototype and solve challenging issues of functional capability at scales required for a national health architecture.
  • You are a communicator, able to relay technical detail to a range of communities and stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
  • You are a collaborator, able to support colleagues, present and share your knowledge and learning as well as learning constructively form others.
  • You are decisive in terms of technical leadership and an open team player as a colleague.
  • You will have experience with a range of technical tooling, programming languages, enterprise messaging solutions and clinical data repositories.
  • You will support and lead on the evaluation, scope and design of innovative products and services throughout the data delivery pipeline.
  • You have knowledge of common interoperability and integration syntax, terminologies, and languages such as (but not limited to) FHIR, HL7v2, SNOMED CT, IHE XDS, openEHR, SOAP, REST, JSON, XML, DTL, OAuth2, API design etc.
  • You can be flexible and support the needs of the business as required.

Digital Health and Care Wales is an ambitious organisation created by Welsh Government to lead on the digital transformation of health and care. It builds on the digital architecture and national services put in place by the NHS Wales Informatics Service over the past decade.

The organisation will lead on large-scale developments that make a significant difference to the people of Wales as well as to health and care professionals, such as expansion of the digital patient record and the creation of a National Data Resource. It will improve the way data is collected, shared and used. Please check your email account regularly. Successful applicants will receive all recruitment related correspondence via the email account registered on the application form.

All applicants are invited to apply in Welsh, any application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English.

To work in the UK, all candidates who are not UK or Republic of Ireland (RoI) nationals require sponsorship to obtain either a Health and Care visa or Skilled Worker visa, unless you have permission to work via another route.
