Are you passionate about creating content that informs, engages, and makes a difference? This apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your career in digital communications while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.

You will be fully supported through structured training, mentoring and on-the-job learning to develop skills in digital content creation, user-centred design, and strategic communications.

 

Main duties of the job

As a Digital Content Apprentice, you will learn how to produce accessible, bilingual (Welsh and English), inclusive content for websites and social media channels. You’ll receive training in content management systems, digital analytics, user research and content design principles, helping you to build strong foundations for a successful career in digital communications.

This role is ideal for someone who is creative, curious, and motivated to learn – no previous experience is required, just a willingness to develop new skills and contribute to meaningful public health campaigns.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

What You Will Learn and Be Supported To Do

Through structured development and mentoring, you will be trained to:

Content Creation and Publishing

  • Create and publish engaging digital content for our website and social media platforms.
  • Use content management systems and social media scheduling software.
  • Apply plain language, accessibility guidelines and Welsh language standards to ensure content is clear, inclusive, and reaches all audiences.

User-Centred Design

  • Use data, feedback, and user insights to understand audience needs.
  • Prototype and test content to improve usability and engagement.
  • Learn how to design content that supports behaviour change and public health impact.

Collaboration and Strategy

  • Work alongside experienced communications professionals and public health experts.
  • Contribute to digital campaigns and editorial calendars.
  • Learn how digital content supports organisational priorities and public engagement strategies.

Project and Stakeholder Management

  • Support the delivery of digital projects and campaigns from planning to publication.
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to gather information and feedback.
  • Develop skills in planning, organisation, and communicating with others.

Continuous Improvement

  • Use analytics tools to measure the performance of digital content.
  • Identify ways to improve engagement and accessibility.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends, best practice and digital standards.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Interest in creating and sharing digital content for websites and social media platforms
  • Basic understanding of content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Wix, or similar) and/or social media scheduling tools, with a willingness to develop these skills further.
  • Awareness of how data and user feedback can help improve digital content, with an interest in learning how to apply this in practice.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact respectfully and clearly with others.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to follow instructions carefully and complete tasks accurately.

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience (this can be through education, personal projects, or volunteering) in creating and sharing digital content for websites and social media platforms

Skills and Attributes

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

Other

Essential criteria
  • Interest in learning project coordination, digital tools, and business administration skills
  • Commitment to complete the Level 3 apprenticeship qualification and attend all off-the-job training when required.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings or events (in person or virtual) as needed
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the needs of the apprenticeship or service
