Digital Health and Care Wales is an ambitious organisation created by Welsh Government to lead on the digital transformation of health and care. It builds on the digital architecture and national services put in place by the NHS Wales Informatics Service over the past decade.

The organisation will lead on large-scale developments that make a significant difference to the people of Wales as well as to health and care professionals, such as expansion of the digital patient record and the creation of a National Data Resource. This role is for someone who has a passion for fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. As the Wellbeing & Diversity Officer, you'll be a key part of an organisation that aims to embed inclusive practices and promote a supportive environment for all staff and service users. You'll work alongside the Equality, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) and Wellbeing lead and the Head of Culture and People Strategy, while also having the autonomy to manage your own workload. This position involves planning, implementing, and coordinating projects to improve the health and wellbeing of colleagues, and developing in-house training sessions and workshops. The role also requires you to act as a first line point of contact for EDI and wellbeing matters, using your strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a wide range of people.

Main duties of the job

The Wellbeing and Diversity Officer will be a role model in the organisation living our values for collaboration, innovation, inclusive, excellence and compassion. A key part of your role will be to promote learning and development opportunities related to EDI and wellbeing. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day running of the health and wellbeing and EDI, which includes project managing and coordinating key EDI and health and wellbeing events and initiatives. You will work with internal teams and external partners to ensure a joined-up approach to all staff networks. The post holder will have a keen interest in collecting and analysing data and information that can be used to assess performance and progress against EDI and Wellbeing objectives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main responsibilities for the EDI and Wellbeing Officer is supporting the delivery of the objectives outlined in the Strategic Equality Plan (SEP), along with the organisation’s Integrated Medium Term Performance Plan (IMTP) and the Framework for the BS 76000 Valuing People and the ISO 30415 Diversity and Inclusion.

The post holder will plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate projects and initiatives to improve the health and wellbeing of colleagues. They will also collect and analyse people data related to EDI and wellbeing, preparing reports for internal and external communication, such as the Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES). Other duties include developing and delivering training sessions and workshops, providing first-line advice on EDI and wellbeing matters, and contributing to the development of policies and services.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree in an associated professional field or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in health and wellbeing or equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including Equality Act 2010, Workforce Race Equality Standard, LBTQ+ Action Plan, and Disability Action Plan
  • Knowledge of staff wellbeing agenda within the NHS including an understanding of mental health and wellbeing in relation to work

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of project planning, delivery of objectives and follow up with key leads in a complex multi-professional organisation.
  • Experience in a health and wellbeing or equality role
  • Experience of co-ordinating health and wellbeing or equality, diversity and inclusion projects
  • Track record of developing and implementing training and development programmes

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information and data in a form that is accessible to a wide range of people, strong interpersonal skills with a high level of emotional intelligence
  • Strong planning and organisation skills including the ability to prioritise where necessary and being able to direct activities of others
  • Ability to engage constructively and communicate effectively with others on contentious and emotive issues and challenge appropriately.
  • Proven ability to manage resources effectively and work under pressure.
  • Competent IT literacy in areas such as word processing, e-mail, PowerPoint, data analysis, and Excel.
  • Commitment to supporting the organisation’s mission to encourage and embrace diversity and inclusion across the NHS.
  • Ability to travel between sites, to events and activities.
