Velindre University NHS Trust is undergoing an exciting period of transformation with a clear ambition to become an organisation delivers the highest quality tertiary cancer services; blood, and transplantation services; and wider service to our partners.

We are seeking to appoint an interim Director of Strategy, Planning and Performance to join our Team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organisation.

The postholder will report to the Chief Executive, and work with the Executive Team to help shape the delivery of the Trust's strategic vision; develop and implement ambitious plans which drive a demonstrable improvement in the quality of care we provide for the patients, donors and partners we serve; and support the delivery of the Trusts major transformation programme working closely with our regional and national partners.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader seeking a secondment to make a real impact. The role is initially offered as a 9-month secondment, with  potential to extend. We are keen for the successful candidate to start in February 2026 and encourage applicants considering a secondment to apply, as discussions can be held prior to interview to explore how this can be achieved.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will lead the development and delivery of the following key elements for the Trust:

Strategy - the development of Trust strategy which set out a roadmap to excellence for the Trust and the services it delivers.

Strategic, commercial development and growth: leading the identification and development of service, commercial and growth opportunities for the Trust working with NHS, academic and commercial partners.

Planning - leading the development of Trusts strategic and service plans collaboration and partnership with Local University Health Boards, Trusts, Strategic Health Authorities, the Welsh Government and wider stakeholders.  This will include the development of capital plans and the implementation of the Well-Being of Future Generations Act, and the Trusts sustainability intentions.  

Digital Services - leading the development of the Trust digital service to support the delivery of the NHS Wales vision for digital transformation and the Trust transformation of clinical and support services with a Digital First approach.

Data and Insight - lead the development of an Insight led organisation that has high provides high quality data, information, insights and knowledge to enable the delivery of high-quality services.
