We are looking for individuals educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent professional experience with evidence of continued professional development.

You will have experience of:

Working with complex conceptual, analytical and mathematical models to derive meaningful insight, providing specialist advice on highly complex operational research and modelling issues
Using a range of tools and techniques to deliver modelling projects covering data extraction and manipulation, mathematical modelling, scenario and experiment analysis and data presentation to provide meaningful insight to a range of audiences
Providing and presenting highly complex information to clinicians and senior managers
Understanding and resolving data and model quality issues
Advanced IT and analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of IT tools/systems such as simul8 (or other Discrete Event Simulation tools), VenSim (or other System Dynamics software), SQL, statistical software and programming languages (such as R and Python).
Excellent verbal, written & presentation skills

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level in a mathematical, statistical, computer-science, management science or similar discipline OR equivalent qualification OR equivalent level of knowledge and skills
Specialist knowledge and experience of Operational Research modelling techniques

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and interest areas complementary to Operational Research modelling – e.g. Data Science techniques (Machine Learning and cluster analysis) or Social Research techniques (survey design and evaluation Knowledge of health economics)
Masters degree in a numerate subject OR equivalent qualification OR equivalent level of knowledge and skills

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of performing complex analytical tasks and creating outputs for use by others
Experience of communicating complex information to a non-technical audience
Understanding of Operational Research and Modelling techniques
High level of understanding of Modelling in NHS Wales and the role of the NHS Wales Modelling Collaborative

Desirable criteria

Report writing and presentation skills.
Experience utilising complex datasets related to population health
Familiarity with medical terminology and coding systems e.g. ICD10, OPCS, Read codes, SNOMED CT

Skills

Essential criteria

Advanced IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office applications, and particularly advanced MS Excel knowledge
Knowledge and experience of specialist computer software, such as SQL, R studio or Simul8 for the production of complex health system models.
Understanding of organisations policies and principles and the ability to work within these guidelines.
Clear understanding of current and ongoing issues affecting health services.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of our workplace values, together with the underpinning behaviours identified for success in this role

Desirable criteria

Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

The salary scale shown is for a full-time member of staff, with the amount being adjusted pro rata for those working less than 37.5 hours per week.

In general, anyone joining our Trust who has not previously worked in the NHS will, by default, start on the first point of the advertised pay band. Pay progression will then be determined by annual Performance and Development Reviews in accordance with the NHS Wales Pay Progression Policy.
