Digital Health and Care Wales is an ambitious organisation created by Welsh Government to lead on the digital transformation of health and care. It builds on the digital architecture and national services put in place by the NHS Wales Informatics Service over the past decade.
The organisation will lead on large-scale developments that make a significant difference to the people of Wales as well as to health and care professionals, such as expansion of the digital patient record and the creation of a National Data Resource. Job overview
We have a permanent vacancy for a Welsh Language Translator working as part of the Corporate Governance Team within Digital Health and Care Wales. The role involves providing a seamless translation service for departments within DHCW and externally.
We are looking for a motivated individual who can work, learn and actively contribute within a team environment, and has knowledge and working experience of providing a translation service.
The ideal candidate must have demonstrable experience of translating from English into Welsh and from Welsh into English.
Main duties of the job
Working as part of the Corporate Governance Team, the postholder will provide a translation service to all departments who require translations and return them in a timely manner.
The work will involve translating written documents such as social media posts and blog posts, for example, which are smaller in size but require a very quick turnaround, through to documents and reports on a much larger scale. The role involves using translation memory software; previous experience of using such software is beneficial but not essential.
Due to the nature of the vacancy, candidates must possess Welsh language skills at Level 5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A Degree in an appropriate subject e.g., Languages or equivalent experience.
- A relevant qualification in Welsh.
- Ability to use the most recent translation technology.
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages including Office.
Desirable criteria
- Basic Membership of the Welsh Association of Translators and Interpreters.
- Knowledge of the current legislative framework for Welsh language services in the NHS.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of translation.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in the NHS.
- Experience of work involving languages or digital communications.
Skills and Attributes
Essential criteria
- Welsh Language Skills are essential at levels 5 in listening, speaking, reading, understanding and writing in Welsh.
