The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Community Drug and Alcohol team for a Team Leader to lead our developing substance misuse team within the Ceredigion locality, based in Aberystwyth. We are looking to appoint to this post on a permanent basis.

Ideally, we are looking for an experienced practitioner in the substance misuse field, with experience of supervising staff, and taking forward clinical practice and service developments. The post holder will work closely with the Service Manager, Non-Medical Prescribers (NMP), Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Service Improvement Lead and other Team Leaders in the overall development, monitoring and evaluation of the Service.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will take a senior clinical lead with responsibility for standards of care delivery, and overall care co-ordination of all cases within the team from referral to discharge within the Locality.

The Team Leader will have responsibility for first level staff management within the team to include supervision, discipline, grievance and professional development and work in conjunction with the service management team in the overall development, monitoring and evaluation of the Service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RMN /RGN or where is job share with registered nurse – QCF Level 5 Advanced Practitioner.
  • Able to evidence KSF / DANOS competencies for role
  • Degree in Substance Misuse or equivalent field or willingness to work towards.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Management or willingness to work towards.
  • Sound knowledge of Substance misuse issues.
  • Understanding of local & national substance misuse strategy.
  • Understanding of relevant legislative frameworks.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in supervision.
  • Nurse Independent / Supplementary Prescriber.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working in a senior role in Substance Misuse.
  • Experience of working in a supervisory capacity
Desirable criteria
  • Recent relevant experience in working at a senior level in health/social care agency.
