Job overview
We are looking for a Ward Clerk to join our multi-disciplinary team in the Ophthalmology Day Surgery Unit, in Amman Valley Hospital.
You must have excellent communication skills and work well in a team. You will need to be able to work calmly and efficiently within a busy environment, whilst remaining focused on providing a person-centred approach to care.
Main duties of the job
- Dealing with general enquiries, using initiative and judgement on necessary action to be taken.
- Supporting the management of the electronic room-booking system for all our clinical rooms.
- Data input onto excel documents and into WPAS.
- Meet and greet service users for clinics and or appointments as required.
- Dealing with enquiries from service users and their families/carers, directing individuals to the correct department.
- Providing non clinical advice e.g. appointments.
- Meet and greet staff and other agencies i.e. when arriving for team meetings etc.
- Answering all incoming calls and referring to staff if unable to give appropriate replies.
- Exercising tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with staff and service users.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.
We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.
