Hywel Dda University Health Board are seeking a Band 4 Dietetic Assistant Practitioner to work as an integral member of the acute dietetic team for nutrition support based in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic and forward thinking nutrition support teams focussing on achieving excellent nutritional care for people in hospital.  

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will become an integral member of the dietetic team working to ensure optimal nutritional care for patients as a key determinant of recovery and outcome on the acute wards.

You will work with patients, their carers and the multi-disciplinary team in hospital, support timely transfers of care, and as part of the team undertake delivery of nutrition education and training to other health and care staff.

You will demonstrate a good understanding of the role of nutrition in health care, be an excellent communicator, a team player and be prepared to undertake further learning and development to fulfil the scope and requirements of this role.   

You will join our small but highly respected Health Board Dietetic team and benefit from a well-established friendly and supportive structure, an active focus on continuing development and well-established multi-professional links.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Nutrition, health or other relevant qualification equivalent to a minimum of 120 credits at level 4 or NVQ or diploma level 3 or equivalent and prepared to complete 120 credits at level 4 relevant to role within 2 years of appointment with equivalent level 4 experience
  • GCSE Maths and English ( grade A-C) or Essential skills in Wales (ESiW)
  • IT proficient
  • Knowledge and understanding of the evidence-base underpinning nutrition in healthcare
  • Good command of English Language and can apply basic Maths
Desirable criteria
  • Level 4 Therapy Apprenticeship
  • Relevant courses to support nutrition/clinical work
  • IT knowledge of data collection systems
  • Professional, technical or academic qualification which relate to nutrition or clinical practice up to 180 credits Level 4.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in healthcare, wellbeing, nutrition or as a support worker in nursing or therapy service or associated field
  • Has the ability to work unsupervised taking responsibility for a delegated workload
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Understands the role of healthcare staff in relation to nutritional care
Desirable criteria
  • Dietetic support worker
  • Additional clinical or health care related experience
  • Experience of working with groups of patients
  • Supervision of staff
