Job overview

This role is for a locum consultant post in O&G based in GGH.

This post is a 6-month locum consultant post to complement the current team of Consultants based at Glangwili General Hospital in support of a vacancy created by a leave of absence.

You will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward looking unit. Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities including access to intranet and internet will be provided.

This post comes during a period of Health Board-wide service reviews, including a comprehensive

reconfiguration of services for the Women and Childs Health Directorate in West Wales. The aim

is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services for the Women’s and Child Health

Directorate across the Health Board, encompassing:

Development of a comprehensive service across the Health Board

Enhancement of early pregnancy and antenatal day assessment services

Active improvement programmes in relation to Gynaecological Cancer care

Enhancement of ambulatory gynaecology and minimal access services.

Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To share the responsibility for the acute care of Obstetrics and Gynaecology during week days and out of hours
  • To support the development and delivery of a new services in hospital and in the community
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division’s and Health Board’s agreed objectives.
  • To develop and deliver a comprehensive service in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • To Participate in MDT and see women in Rapid Access Clinic

Teaching/Training (as agreed with Clinical Lead/Hospital Director/AMD/MD)

  • To provide conditions for improved training opportunities
  • To participate in the undergraduate teaching programme
  • To assist and participate with the development of postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, STs,
  • Speciality Doctors and other staff as appropriate
  • Where agreed, to act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle grade medical staff

Audit (as agreed with Clinical Lead/Hospital Director/AMD/MD)

  • To promote evidence-based clinical practice
  • To undertake regular audit

· Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services; 

· Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MRCOG
  • Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
Desirable criteria
  • Appropriate Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD or MSc or equivalent
  • On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
  • Or Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) or equivalent European Qualifications for Specialist Registration

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Knowledge and participation in CPD
  • Competence in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Expertise in managing Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergencies
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of NHS
  • Wider experience, research and training in providing sub specialty service
  • Membership of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Additional clinical qualification(s)

Clinical Governance

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of risk management

Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence so as to improve clinical outcomes
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
  • Research degree

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of organising programmes and teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable criteria
  • “Training the Trainers” experience

Management

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS
