Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Mechanical craftsperson within the site based Estates Operational Maintenance team.

The Mechanical craftsperson will be part of a team ensuring that mechanical / electrical / building equipment and services are maintained to an appropriate standard and to support clinical service departments in their prime task of treating patients.

The appointed individual will support the site operational management staff with the day to day operational engineering maintenance , which will include boilers, steam systems, medical gases, heating, hot water, buildings, etc. 

Main duties of the job

Ensure the day to day efficient and safe working of all mechanical/electrical plant, equipment and services within the Health boards establishments.
This will require a thorough theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding of the operation of a wide range of complex mechanical plant and services including but not limited to boiler plant, ventilation plant, calorifiers, medical gas systems, passenger/goods lifts systems etc also a basic knowledge of other trade skills.

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a structured training programme / apprenticeship in mechanical engineering services
  • BTEC/HNC Level in Building Services or equivalent relevant experience plus City & Guilds Part II or NVQ Level III or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification on site experience
  • Experience at working on a wide range of mechanical installations, plant and equipment.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment.
  • Experience of working within the NHS

Language skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
