Job overview
The Women and Children Directorate of Hywel Dda University Health Board has an exciting opportunity for Band 6 Paediatric Outpatients Junior Sister to join our Paediatric Outpatient Nursing Team.
The post holder will provide clinical and managerial leadership of the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire Outpatients Department reporting to the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for Paediatrics Outpatients Department.
The setting of standards of care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating. This will include the daily management of the outpatients setting over three sites (Carmarthen, Llanelli and Withybush), working within guidelines and codes of practice.
Main duties of the job
The role will include being responsible for the day to day management of the departments and co-ordinate the Outpatients departments taking responsibility for planning and day-to-day organisation of the clinics and other activities held in the children’s centres.
Accountable for the provision and promotion of high standards of holistic family-cantered care to the children and families.
Be a competent, knowledgeable and visible practitioner, ensuring the provision of excellent evidence-based nursing care for children and their families.
Will be required to work in an environment which is complex, demanding and unpredictable, dealing with a number of complex situations, formulating and adjusting plans accordingly.
Be knowledgeable of the Children Act, Child Protection Procedures, Human Rights Act and all reports relevant to children.
Demonstrate a professional approach to work and act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times, ensuring compliance from the ward team.
Be directly involved in the development of policies, protocols, guidelines and procedures for the clinical area.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- RN part 8 or 15 of the register
- Evidence of dynamic CPD to Postgraduate Diploma Level
- EPLS/APLS/PALS
- Aware of NMC Codes of Practice
- Excellent paediatric knowledge
- Understanding of professional and current in children’s nursing
- Understanding of resource management, health and safety, clinical risk and quality issues
- Child protection trained Level 2 and 3
- Knowledge of importance of research and evidence based practice relating theory to practice
- Provide specialist clinical advice within the multidisciplinary team
- Aware of cultural differences and needs
- Understanding of audit and research methodologies
- Handling clinical incidents and complaints
- Awareness of Clinical Governance
- Awareness of equality and diversity

- NVQ D32/33 Assessors course
