This is a fixed term/secondment vacancy until 01/09/2026

Ward 1 is a 24 bedded trauma and orthopaedic ward in Withybush General Hospital, Haverfordwest. 

Ward one specialises in the management of spinal fractures and hip fractures and will provide you with the opportunity to care for patients with complex needs.

We are a warm, friendly multidisciplinary team of professionals who work closely together to provide high quality, holistic driven, evidence-based care to all our patients. 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and forward-thinking. Motivated with excellent communication and leadership skills and will be able to support the Senior Sister and Multidisciplinary team in providing patient centred, high standards of care, and efficient safe management of patients.

The applicant should be able to demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with a readiness to innovate and develop nursing within a team approach. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1)
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development / experience and a willingness to undertake appropriate post graduate diploma level study)
  • Bronze IQT
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Recognised management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2015)
  • Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
  • Experience of running a ward/area/department
  • Experience of working with pre registration nursing / midwifery students
  • Experience of formal /informal teaching and of mentoring pre registration nursing or midwifery students
  • Understanding of wider nursing and health care related agenda
  • IT skills
  • Supervisory management skills
  • Able to relate theory into practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of coordinating a team
