We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and suitably qualified HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, to apply for Fixed Term  Band 8a post of Blood Science Laboratory Manager within the Blood Sciences Department at Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Effective organisational and communication skills are essential, and you must have the ability to work and manage a team efficiently.

This post is a fixed term/secondment position for 18 months, the post holder will act as the Laboratory Lead for Hywel Dda University Health Board Blood Science Service in Prince Philip hospital in Llanelli.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the organisation and quality of the work within the Blood science team in Prince Philip hospital. They will provide expert advice, and guidance to operational managers, site managers and other senior staff to ensure maintenance of the blood science service.

Duties will include, but not be limited to, collaborating with clinical leads to manage risks to ensure patient safety, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge in their field allowing opportunities for quality improvement and ensuring an efficient and effective service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. 

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.
We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical scientist
  • On-going CPD
  • MSc or Equivalent Qualification
  • Management Qualification
  • Specialist medical laboratory knowledge (clinical and technical) across a range of complex work procedures and practices within the discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of complex instrumentation, subject or speciality obtained through relevant training over and above that required for routine work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use: Quality assurance/quality control procedures, Health and Safety procedures, Clinical Governance and Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of assessment / evaluation of training
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship of Knowledge of NHS Financial / Budgetary processes the IBMS
  • Fellowship of IBMS.

Experience

  • Prior experience as a senior BMS
  • Extensive relevant clinical/Technical experience.
