Job overview
To provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate), a service in Geriatric Medicine and support the development of sub-speciality interests to the hospitals and community so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
As a senior employee of the Health Board the post holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Health Board’s patients.
Main duties of the job
To share the responsibility for the acute care of patients based at Prince Philip Hospital supported by trainee and non-training doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.
To support the development and delivery of Care of the Elderly service in the hospital and in the community. To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements within the parameters of the Division’s and Health Board’s agreed objectives. To develop and deliver a comprehensive 7 days service for the Geriatric Medicine/General Medicine services.
To ensure the provision and delivery of a first class clinical service
To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. · 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
· Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
· Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.

- Additional Higher qualification(s).
Clinical Experience

- Broad based experience within the specialty area.
- Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
- Experience of leading a team.
