Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of a Medical Secretary for Urology Services within Scheduled Care.
The post holder will be required to provide an comprehensive administration/clerical service following appropriate systems, procedures, policies and processes.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining records both manually and on a computerised system and demonstrate the ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential patient information.
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your own initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.
This post is a Fixed Term/ Secondment until 01.06.26 to cover secondment. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited from enthusiastic, innovative, motivated and suitably qualified individuals for the role of a full time (37.5 hours) Band 4, Medical Secretary within the Urology Department based at Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli.
The successful candidate will undertake typing of highly sensitive letters and reports in addition to operation of the Health Board’s patient database system.
You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your own initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills. The ability to work to pre-defined deadlines is of paramount importance. An understanding of the importance of confidentiality is essential.
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have experience within a Medical Secretary / Administrative role. Experience of Data Entry using Excel Spreadsheets would also be advantageous. Experience of a range of clinical and administrative IT systems / packages coupled with proven secretarial skills and previous experience is essential.
Experience of working within the NHS as well as knowledge of Health Board Systems is desirable, but an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn is also very important.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
