Job overview

The post holder will provide clinical leadership in the delivery of the Podiatry Service within vascular/diabetes and MSK disciplines. They will lead on aspects of the delivery plan for their specialty and overall, this will support the podiatry service plan for Hywel Dda. They will provide specialist podiatry advice to the Community Podiatry Team and professionals in other fields. 

The clinical job plan will be to work with core hospital services for both diabetes/vascular and MSK podiatry services. This will involve working with vascular services, CMAT service and Orthopaedic outpatient clinics in line with service need.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

In order to support the latter, the post holder will be required to develop specialist skills allowing for requesting of diagnostic imaging, and blood investigations. There will be an expectation that other extended aspects of practice such as Diagnostic Ultrasonography and Independent 
prescribing may be required as the post is developed.

The postholder will be expected to engage with the HB Vascular Pathway and work in Consultant Orthopaedic/Vascular outpatient clinics and within the MIU setting. The podiatrist will also be involved in the triage of the GP referred patients to the HB, undertaking assessment, treatment and independent discharge.

The post holder will also provide a quality service by practicing as a highly specialist autonomous practitioner. This will involve autonomously managing a varied patient caseload where the post holder is required to plan, modify and carry out complex assessment, diagnosis and intervention, demonstrating autonomous clinical judgments where expert opinion differs due to an ambiguous or absent evidence base.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Podiatric Medicine and registration with the HCPC.
  • Local anaesthesia certificate
  • Master's Degree or equivalent level of specialist experience in area of clinical expertise
  • Evidence of postgraduate study appropriate for delivering advanced practice such as independent prescribing, injection therapy, diagnostic ultrasound
  • Radiology competency
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate Health Education or Promotion MSc modules in podiatric medicine in a specialist area
  • Member of the College of Podiatrists.
  • Evidence of leadership courses/ qualifications.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of advanced clinical practice in area of speciality
  • Evidence of MDT working
  • Experience in consultant led clinics.
  • Significant experience working as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Experience managing a complex caseload using an advanced clinical reasoning process
  • Experience in assisting in leading service developments.
  • Experience of referring for and analysing the results of tests
  • Experience in delivering audit.
  • Experience in delivering training to staff on complex matters.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of team management
