Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Theatre Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a Health Care Support Worker to undertake the circulating role and duties as per all Wales job description. 
 
This is a part-time position and is open to novice or experienced Health Care Support Workers who would like a new challenge.  Full competency-based training will be provided and supported by mentors within the department as well as our Health Board Practice Educators.

Main duties of the job

Prioritise delegated workload, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner, using your initiative to undertake the work based on the needs of the patient, and department.

Work within established policies and procedures when delivering care; and under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional.

On completion of relevant training and being assessed as competent, provides assistance as a circulating member of the Theatre team as directed by a registered healthcare professional, for example partaking in swab, needle and instrument counts, connecting and testing diathermy and suction apparatus and other apparatus required for theatre e.g. headlamps, stack systems, troubleshooting equipment, assisting with the collection, labelling, handling of specimens for dispatch for laboratory examination.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject or equivalent experience and can evidence work-based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role, which is gained through experience and work-based training/short courses).
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting, for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality, for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Desirable criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in Perioperative Support / or equivalent qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice
  • Experience of working within the NHS
