Are you a experienced Clinical Psychologist or a newly qualified? We could have the opportunity that you have been waiting for. Cheshire and Merseyside Adolescent Eating Disorder Service (CHEDS) is a regional outpatient/inpatient service offering evidenced based treatment approaches to 13 - 18 year olds who present with an eating disorder, and their families / carers. The Service has strong links with Ancora House, and the trust has close research links with the University of Liverpool. The service also works very closely with locality eating disorder community teams within Cheshire and Merseyside. We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Psychologist to join our multi-disciplinary team, which includes two existing Clinical Psychologists. The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of specialist outpatient and inpatient interventions to improve the health outcomes for young people who present with eating disorders. The post is full time but we would be open to considering part time hours.

Main duties of the job

We offer an excellent preceptorship, with the opportunity to develop skills within a specialist setting and to be part of the development of an evidenced based service. There is a strong commitment to professional development through Appraisal and the provision of individual supervision. Applicants should possess a Post-graduate/ doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology. We would consider experienced candidates or those approaching the end of clinical training. We will consider candidate approaching the end of their clinical psychology training and seeking a development role. Band 7, rising to Band 8a after successful completion of the developmental role. There are opportunities to be involved in service development e.g. day service. We offer a range of group work, involving Parent Group, Multi Family Therapy Group, RO-DBT, Body Image and DBT-coping skills. We provide consultation to the eating disorder community teams and other services on a regular basis. In CHEDS there is lots of opportunity to work with complex cases and co morbidities. There are lots of great opportunities to develop your CPD as this is highly valued and supported within the service along with further specialist training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide a high quality specialist psychology service to people with eating disorders who are under the care of the CWP Eating Disorder Service.

Provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy as well as providing consultation and advice on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers.

Facilitation of groups and evidence based treatment.

Supervise trainees and qualified practitioners as agreed.

Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) or
  • HPC Registered
Desirable criteria
  • Additional Psychotherapy qualification
  • Supervision qualification
  • Core NHS/Social Services professional training

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Skills in conducting complex psychological assessment and intervention frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex and /or clinically sensitive information to clients and professional colleagues within and outside the NHS.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Skills in providing Consultation to other professionals and nonprofessional groups.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of liaison with other health professionals
  • Experience of providing teaching and training.
  • Experience of contributing to policy and service development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-qualification NHS experience of working as a clinical psychologist therapeutically with adult clients with varied psychological problems
  • Experience of engaging and sustaining work with ambivalent clients
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care within the context of a multi –disciplinary teams and care plans.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of liaison with other health professionals
  • Experience of providing teaching and training.
  • Experience of contributing to policy and service development
  • Experience of working with Older Adults
  • Expertise in neuropsychological assessment
