We are looking for a new Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join our dynamic team in the Occupational Therapy service based at Bowmere Hospital, Chester. This is a permanent part time position, 22.5 hours per week to work over 3 days Monday – Wednesday .The successful applicant will be working with adult mental health service users, who are experiencing acute mental illness requiring inpatient care. The Occupational Therapy service aims to support service users toward independence and safe discharge, using a person centred approach.

An adaptable and creative approach is required with an expectation to support different wards as required to meet service need.  The postholder will work as part of the Occupational Therapy team to plan and facilitate a varied programme of therapeutic activities, working in small groups or individually with service users.   The post holder will also be contributing to daily living skills assessments and interventions, and help to maintain the Clarion Centre (Therapy department). This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same. The postholder will be will be able to work flexibly to support service users meet their goals and benefit from meaningful activity, during the hospital stay.

We have a well-resourced Therapy department and an established Therapy service and therapy activity timetable. Supervision is provided by a senior Occupational Therapist.

We are looking for a caring, creative and organised team player who has a genuine interest in promoting wellbeing and recovery for people experiencing mental illness.

The successful applicants will have excellent communication and team work skills and enjoy working in a busy hospital environment. Applicants will be required to have evidence of relevant experience and have an understanding of person centred working and the 6 Cs.

This post is permanent part time 22.5 hours a week ( 8.30-4.30pm Monday – Wednesday, open to negotiation based on service need). We support continuing professional development and clinical supervision. There are good networks with other OT Technical Instructors within our team and a wider Allied Health Professional network in the Trust.

  • NVQ Level III or equivalent in relevant subject area with experience in health care setting or 3 years experience in an occupational therapy setting and willing to work towards NVQ Level III or equivalent

  • Have completed training in disability equipment
  • Care Certificate

Knowledge and Expertise

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Co-ordination and organisational skills.
  • Basic risk assessment and risk management skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Basic understanding of issues affecting people with mental illness
  • Basic awareness of issues affecting health and social care.
  • Appreciation of the 6Cs and person centred care
