Job overview
Working Full time: 37.5 hours per week
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to support the Pacing Service at the Countess of Chester Hospital undertaking routine, complex and specialised procedures including accurate reporting to support clinical decisions.
The successful applicant will work as part of a team, reporting to the clinical lead and will provide supervision, training and support for more junior staff. This is an exciting opportunity to support the development of the wider Cardiology service at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide a comprehensive service for diagnostic investigations (including pacing and Cardiac Catheters) undertaking routine, complex and specialised procedures providing and recording accurate results.
2. Support patients throughout any tests, including effectively positioning any sensors explaining to the patients the need for them being positioned where they are. Ensuring that any less mobile of frail patients are supported into the correct body positions for any tests to be carried out as effectively as possible.
3. Provide a technician led diagnostic service for GP referrals; submit an Autonomous report directly to the GP with recommendations for client care and overseeing of the same for junior staff.
4. Reporting autonomously of specialised tests for all consultant teams.
5. Be the lead physiologist responsible for Cardiac patients undergoing diagnostic investigations that could evoke adverse reactions.
6. Provide a permanent pacemaker and implantable loop recorder implant follow up appointment for patients.
7. Administration of medicine on Patient group directives as and when required.
8. Reporting without medical input on complex diagnostic investigations unless a Cardiology opinion is deemed necessary.
9. Responsible for the safe and competent use of all equipment and the safety of patients and staff within the department.
10. Ensure adequate levels and rotation of stock is undertaken.
Working for our organisation
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

- BSc in Clinical Physiology or BTEC in Science MPPM or equivalent Level 3 NVQ in Technical Cardiology Professional body exam SCST part 1 and 2 RCCP membership
Knowledge and experience

- Extensive experience including substantial experience post registration this includes 6-12 permanent Pacemaker follow up clinic and Lab experience.
- Able to report on diagnostics tests.
- Evidence of continuing professional development contained within a portfolio.
- Able to manage own workload and co-ordinate that of others.
