An opportunity has arisen within the Practice Development Team for a maternity cover. 

The successful candidate must have worked within the clinical environment within the last 18 months and have surgical experience.

As a Practice Development Nurse, the successful candidate will provide support and education to the nursing workforce both in the classroom environment and the clinical environment. 

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for a band 6 role within the Practice Development Team. The role will focus on supporting preceptorship, including facilitating and delivering teaching sessions on induction and providing clinical support within the ward environment. The team has a responsive approach to education ensuring that the content of our sessions is sensitive to current risks and harms within the Trust.

This diverse role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to provide teaching in both the classroom and the clinical environment. Protected time will also be given to ensure that the post holder has the opportunity to continuously maintain their own clinical competence as required. The post holder will ensure that all training programmes are quality assured, attendance is monitored and will support the Practice Development Lead to ensure that feedback strategies assure quality enhancement of education and training programmes.

Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.                                                                 

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent diploma and experience
  • Learning and Assessment in practice module at level 6 or 7 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent
  • Service Improvement or project management qualification/course attendance

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • A sound understanding of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Experience within the speciality you express an interest in on application
  • Knowledge of healthcare education programmes
  • Obtained competency in a variety of clinical skills relevant to speciality
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of providing training and education within existing workplace setting
  • Evidence of delivering teaching sessions
  • If applying in house has taken part in or completed the Acorn Development Programme
