An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated team players to join our Plastics Department at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are currently welcoming applications for Trust Doctor ST3+ level to join the team.
This post will be based at the Countess of Chester Hospital where operative work will be undertaken. Clinics will be held at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be under the instruction of the Consultants in this Consultant-led Unit, acting at middle grade level. They will be required to assist in and will participate in in-patient, day case and out-patient plastic surgical procedures and attend weekly out-patient clinics. Occasionally, they will be required to attend out-patient clinics held in peripheral sites.
This is a Trust post and not recognised for training purposes, however the successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in regular teaching sessions & other relevant educational opportunities.
Working for our organisation
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full Registration and a licence to practice with the GMC
- MRCS or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- ATLS
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Validated logbook of relevant operative experience/good clinical care
- Computer skills
- Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need.
- Demonstrates appropriate technical competence & evidence of development of excellent diagnostic skills & judgement
Desirable criteria
- Shows aptitude for practical skills, e.g. hand-eye co-ordination, dexterity, visuo-spatial awareness
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working at middle grade/registrar level within Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
- Maintaining Good Medical Practice
- Good relationships and communication with patients
- Professional behavior and probity
- Delivery of good acute clinical care
Desirable criteria
- Experience equivalent to a competence level at ST4/5 within Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
- Experience working within the NHS
- Attendance at relevant courses, e.g. ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills or equivalent.
