Working Part time: 32 hours per week  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated team players to join our Trauma and Orthopaedics  Department at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are currently welcoming applications for Trust Doctor ST3+ level to join the team.

This post will be based at the Countess of Chester Hospital where operative work will be undertaken. Clinics will be held at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be under the instruction of the Consultants in this Consultant-led Unit, acting at middle grade level. They will be required to assist in and will participate in in-patient, day case and out-patient Trauma and Orthopaedic surgical procedures and attend weekly out-patient clinics. 

This is a Trust post and not recognised for training purposes, however the successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in regular teaching sessions & other relevant educational opportunities.

Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

•    The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
•    Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
•    Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • ATLS
  • Full registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Further qualification eg. FRCSOrtho

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to lead a team, work as part of a team and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise busy workloads effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals.
  • Evidence of continuing professional updating.
Desirable criteria
  • Counselling or a related qualification/training.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum basic surgical training – 24 months (non-UK doctors must be able to demonstrate 24 months of equivalent training with supervision and assessment).
  • At least 12 months experience in T&O surgery at SHO level or equivalent
  • At least 6 months experience in a multi-professional working environment.
  • Proven participation in audit activities
  • Validated logbook with appropriate operative experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of at least one substantive post of 3 months in Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Intensive Care or Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • 12 months experience in T&O surgery at SpR level or equivalent.
  • Ability to assume Team Leader role in Emergency Department.
