Working Full or Part time

This is a post based at the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital.

Additional PAs may be available subject to job plan agreement / participation in out of hours Rota and needs of the service. The post holder will support on the Medicine Registrar on-call Rota. 

The successful applicant will be working alongside four other specialty doctors in a rotational post. The post rotates through a hyperacute stroke unit, general elderly medicine ward and frailty unit in a vibrant and expanding elderly care department.  They will assist the Elderly Medicine Consultants in the care of in-patients and assessing and reviewing patients. The department is committed to supporting our speciality doctors’ career pathways either through membership qualifications or CESR.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a full time appointment working for the Care of the Elderly Team. They will ensure Speciality Doctor cover is provided for general inpatients and the acute frailty unit.  

Consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work part-time/job-share.

The principal duties and responsibilities of the post are listed below:

  • Assessment new patients
  • Monitor complex medical problems
  • Plan maintenance medical treatment and appropriate outpatient investigations
  • Support consultant ward rounds
  • Provide cross cover
  • Participate on the registrar GIM Rota 

The post holder will have shared office accommodation, computer use and secretarial support.

Working for our organisation

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.                                                                 

The Trust employs over 5916 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000. This includes 361,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

Entry Criteria for Grade

Essential criteria
  • Shall have completed at least four years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in the specialty training programme (SHO level) in General Medicine or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Current Full Registration and licence to practice with the General Medical Council

Previous Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Stroke Medicine

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Medical Degree approved for the purpose of registration with GMC with a licence to practice.
  • MRCP Part 1 or equivalent
  • ALS
