Job overview
The Deputy Finance Business Partner – Healthier Futures will play a pivotal part in delivering the Healthier Futures Programme by providing key finance support in the development of all Programme Business Cases stages, this will include appraisal and ongoing monitoring for Benefits and Workforce costings that will assist with the economic and financial appraisals.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will also provide all aspects of finance support to the expanding Research portfolio for the Trust. Growing the research portfolio is a key strategic objective for the Trust in the transition to the new hospital, and the post holder will play a key part in this expansion.
The post holder will be required to work closely with the Trust Financial Management team to ensure all processes are adhered to for all aspects of Healthier Futures revenue spend. They will provide finance support as needed to bridge between the Trust Financial Management & Healthier Futures Teams.
The postholder will require technical accounting and business knowledge, strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex financial issues effectively to groups and senior non-financial people, including Healthier Futures Board and executive teams and to be able to work effectively and motivate a small team. They will need a strong commercial focus and a willingness to learn from working in a multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To support the Deputy Director of Finance – Healthier Futures in planning & co-ordinating all aspects of the New Hospital Business Case, ensuring that all relevant factors are incorporated. To attend meetings with department heads and workstream leads and contribute elements that impact the economic and financial appraisals during the overall process.
To support the Deputy Director of Finance – Healthier Futures in calculation and ongoing monitoring for all Benefits including in the New Hospital Business Case. Reviewing the Trust CIP plans and business cases to ensure any interdependencies with Healthier Futures Programme are identified and considered.
To support in the completion of all appropriate Business Cases, ensuring that costs are complete and accurate. Requires knowledge of accounting principles in relation to treatment of capital and revenue expenditure. A good working knowledge of the NHS and its services is essential to ensure that all areas affected by new developments are included in the business cases and any financial impacts fully costed and included. To ensure all relevant finance colleagues are aware of the cases.
Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others, by taking action/alerting senior management team if practice appears to contravene policy, or if concerned about any aspect of patient care.
To monitor the quality of the output by yourself and the staff assisting you, setting quality targets and ensuring that staff set themselves objectives for improving the quality of their work. To ensure that the use of Information Technology contributes to improving these processes as far as possible.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate up to date financial management skills via significant progression towards CCAB qualification and continued professional development or significant experience in a finance role
Desirable criteria
- Newly Qualified member of CCAB Body.
- Educated to degree level.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent analytical and reasoning skills
- An ability to be organised and methodical in their work and discuss financial issues with non-financial managers across the Trust.
- Ability to concentrate for long period of time. A proven ability to cope under pressure and work to deadlines.
Desirable criteria
- Understanding and knowledge of Better Business Case structure, including benefits structure
Pervious Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing front-line financial support in a multidisciplinary team
- Technical knowledge and experience of providing financial support for large projects or divisional support,
- In depth experience and expertise in a range of accounting areas including reconciliations, finance ledgers and coding structures.
Desirable criteria
- A wider knowledge of Health Service finance and of issues affecting the wider NHS.
- Knowledge of the NHS finance regime.
