Junior Management Accountant

Job overview

The Financial Management Team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is undergoing an exciting transformation through our new improvement programme, FinanceRevive, led by our dynamic Chief Finance Officer. This is your opportunity to be part of innovation — shaping better systems, processes, and ways of working. If you’re ready to make an impact and join a forward-thinking team, your future starts here.

Join our innovative Financial Management Team and help modernise how we deliver finance across the Trust. You’ll be part of a supportive environment where every contribution is valued, with real opportunities to grow and thrive.

This role is ideal for someone with a sound understanding of NHS Management Accounts who wants to develop their practical skills. It’s a varied post requiring strong analytical ability, adaptability, and confidence in supporting operational divisions.

We are seeking an individual with:

  • Excellent Excel and analytical skills

  • Strong communication and problem-solving ability, including stakeholder management and relationship-building with divisional leads, budget holders, Finance Business Partners, and Senior Management Accountants; previous experience liaising with stakeholders is advantageous

  • A proactive, enthusiastic approach to improvement

  • The ability to work on their own initiative, supporting Senior Management Accountants

Main duties of the job

The Junior Management Accountant plays a key role in overseeing the monthly reporting cycle and ensuring accurate financial reporting for their designated areas.

You’ll report to the Management Accountants and Finance Business Partners, providing financial reporting and transactional support. Aligned to one of our divisions (DMEC), you’ll be responsible for your own range of cost centres. This role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with our front-line teams, so good people skills will be a real advantage.

You’ll be expected to work on your own initiative, planning and organising your workload to meet monthly timetable deadlines, so good organisational and time management skills are essential.

You will support financial reporting by managing accruals, prepayments, and processing adjustments to the general ledger. Discretion is crucial, as some matters will be confidential; therefore, a good understanding of double-entry accounting is essential.

The postholder will have regular contact with budget managers and will develop a strong understanding of the areas of the Trust they support, with opportunities for cross-functional working.

This role requires strong Excel skills, including a good understanding of how formulas work, the ability to use pivot tables to analyse data, and the capability to present clear, accurate financial information for a range of stakeholders, such as budget holders and divisional leads etc.

Working for our organisation
