Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Consultant

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is offered at 6.5PAs.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic doctor to join our specialist palliative service, where you will work with an established palliative care team including a specialist palliative care nurse consultant, clinical specialist nurses, doctors, support worker and practice educator. Our core focus is on delivering a high-quality patient (and carer) experience. We believe that the key to improving both patient and staff experiences lies in a patient-centred approach that is both efficient and of the highest quality.

The Trust is one of a small number of hospitals nationally confirmed to be in an early phase of the national New Hospital Build Programme. This will result in the acute hospital on the Leighton site being completely rebuilt and operational by 2031, providing fantastic opportunities for development and transformation of elective and acute surgical services at MCHFT.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise.  The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training within Palliate Care.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.

The proposed AAC date is 10.03.2026.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the post holder will contribute to the leadership, delivery, and development of our future Palliative Care  services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (MCHFT) as well as the exciting New Hospital Program that is in development at the current Leighton
Hospital site.

The postholder will provide medical leadership and consultant level review of hospital patients and will work collaboratively with the existing palliative care team within hospice and community sectors to support, develop, and deliver seamless integrated care to improve the experience for patients with specialist palliative care needs.  The successful candidate will primarily be based at MCHFT’s Leighton Hospital (Crewe) but will also attend St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice.

A wide range of community services is provided across 26 medical centres and schools by  Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership, in collaboration with Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS FT and the South Cheshire and Vale Royal GP Alliance.
