Job overview
We are looking for a Medical Imaging assistant with the skills and personality to complement and support our established team of sonographers, doctors and MIAs. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong work ethic, a good attendance record, an empathetic manner and superb organisational skills. Good computer skills and experience are also essential.
The post requires a degree of self -motivation and the ability to cope with sensitive and emotionally charged situations. Patient confidentiality is of the utmost importance.
Main duties of the job
You will be assisting the sonographers and radiologists within the scan room, dealing directly with patients.
You will be required to assist and support both the patient and your clinical colleagues.
Patient duties will consist of direct communication, physical assistance (particularly the elderly and infirm/ babies and children/ vulnerable adults), providing reassurance and comfort to enable the practitioner to get the best possible examination.
You will also assist the sonographer/ radiologist by ensuring the list runs smoothly, appointing inpatients, chaperoning and assisting during interventional procedures, resolving problems and attending to any issues that may occur during the session.
Excellent computer skills are vital as you will be responsible for using several different software systems to book patients, review attendances, undertake training, order stock (if required), call patients, add information to records.
You must also be a good communicator as you will be required to liaise with the multidisciplinary team in order to optimise patient care and service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Your remit will include but is not limited to:-
- Preparation of appointment lists/ clinic lists.
- Ensuring the clinical rooms are kept clean and tidy.
- Stock control and ordering (with training).
- Involvement in roster creation (if appropriate).
- Routine weekly quality assurance on ultrasound equipment.
- Reporting of incidents.
- Registering and attending patients on the radiology information system.
- Booking ward patients.
- Phoning patients to remind them of their appointments.
- General problem solving.
- Patient handling and assistance.
- Acting as a chaperone within the scan room.
- Assisting in interventional procedures.
- Close interaction with admin, porters and ward staff.
- Ensuring clinical rooms are fully stocked.
- Comforting and reassuring patients during scans.
- Generally assisting where and when required.
- Answering phone queries and taking messages.
Your day will be unpredictable and varied, and you will need to be adaptable and reliable.
