Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Specialty Doctor to join our Anaesthetic and Intensive Care Team at Macclesfield District General Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a dynamic and supportive department, working alongside experienced Consultants, Associate Specialists, Specialty Doctors, ST3+ trainees, and Core Trainees. We deliver a high-quality, patient-focused service in a modern, well-equipped District General Hospital.

You will join a team of 24 middle-grade anaesthetists, providing flexible cover across three 1:8 rotas — Obstetrics, Emergency CEPOD/Trauma, and ICU.

Hours per week: 12.7PAs

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver safe and effective anaesthetic care across a range of surgical specialties

  • Participate in a 1 in 8 on-call rota, which includes both first and second on-call duties

  • Provide resident on-call cover for theatres and Intensive Care

  • Manage ICU and perioperative patients during on-call shifts

  • Carry designated bleeps for Theatre, ITU and Cardiac Arrest as part of a flexible rota system

  • Conduct pre- and post-operative assessments and contribute to multi-disciplinary patient care

  • Ensure high standards of clinical documentation and patient communication

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualifications
  • GMC registration

Clinical skills

Essential criteria
  • Wide experience in General Anaesthetics and local anaesthetics techniques
  • Competent in regional and general anaesthesia for both elective and emergency work
  • Experienced in managing ITU patients in a UK hospital
