The Corporate Governance Manager is responsible for undertaking duties to support the corporate governance arrangements of the Trust and will have administrative responsibility for supporting the corporate business function of the Trust Board, ensuring effective, proactive governance support to the Chair and Board members, including line management responsibility for the Executive Assistants and Corporate Governance Officer.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

The Corporate Governance Manager will be required to contribute to the development and implementation of associated systems and policies. The post holder has responsibility for ensuring the maintenance of the Board Assurance Framework and corporate risk register.

The post holder will have administrative responsibility for the implementation of an internal audit tracker system to fulfil assurance requirements. These key areas of work impact across the whole Trust, as well as other external organisations. The post holder will also ensure effective, proactive governance support to the Chair and Board members, including line management responsibility for the Executive Assistants and Corporate Governance Officer.

The post holder will be responsible for the development of processes and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and good governance practice, including oversight of corporate registers, the oversight and management of support to the Trust Board, including Board subcommittees and other Board events including the Trust’s Annual General Meeting.

The post holder will exercise a high degree of independent judgement, flexibility and personal initiative, be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and be able to prioritise and delegate workload whilst managing other competing priorities in a calm, positive and supportive manner.

Qualifications Education and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Relevant qualification in governance or extensive theoretical and practical experience of corporate governance
  • Broad understanding of the NHS
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of business and risk management

Experience

  • Extensive experience working within the specialist field of governance/performance/ business management
  • Working in a complex organisation
  • Evidence of ability to deal with highly sensitive information and manage conflict appropriately
