Job overview

The post holder will fill our vacant Foundation Year 2 training gap in the ENT department.

The work within the department will be carried out under the supervision of the senior trainees and you will report to a senior ENT Specialty Doctor or ENT consultant.  The role will include the admission, documentation and day to day care of patients and attendance at Ward Rounds as part of the ENT/General Surgery On-Call Rota.

This post requires 6 months NHS experience and 4 months experience in the speciality.

Clinical Responsibilities

To contribute to the care of inpatients and outpatients

Work with colleagues to provide a service with the highest standard of care and to always follow and maintain good working practice.

The post holder should be prepared to perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

The post holder will be expected to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties which are seen as essential for continuity of patient care.

Education and Training

Every opportunity will be provided to the appointee to develop special interests and skills in aspects of medical care, information technology, medical audit, etc. The post holder will maintain his/her own continuing professional development in line with current guidelines on professional responsibilities. 
There is a Post Graduate Medical Education Centre on both Hospital sites with library and study facilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the admission, clerking, and day-to-day care of patients on the ENT patients as required.

You will attend daily ward rounds, clinics and operating sessions as required.

This post will principally be to support the department and provide prospective cover within the department.

The person will be responsible for continuous care of patients as appropriate.

 

The incumbent of the post will be expected to attend ward rounds, assist with out-patient clinics, and assist in theatre.

There will be opportunity for supervised surgical experience

 

Your working pattern is arranged across a rota cycle, and includes:

Normal Days (0800 to 1600) - on normal days typically allocated doctors will cover the ENT inpatients and elective patients & post-operative/emergency patients and complete the post take ward round following an on call duty. Responsibilities in terms of roles will be allocated in the rota.

 

Night shifts (2000 to 0900 next day) – on nights you will typically provide ward cover, attend handover meetings, and receive emergency department referrals.

 

Average Weekly Hours of Work

Your contract is a full-time 40 hours

You will in addition be contracted for an additional 5.75 hours, making for total contracted hours of 45.75

The distribution of these will be as follows:

Average weekly hours at basic hourly rate: 31

Average weekly hours attracting a 37% enhancement: 14.75
