A fantastic opportunity has arisen to appoint a skilled, motivated, and enthusiastic Registered Children's Nurse to join the Safeguarding  Team. The Specialist Nurse Safeguarding Children role is an exciting opportunity to develop your professional practice, and leadership skills. 

This role will support the safeguarding children agenda but the ethos of our Safeguarding Team is that all specialists cross-cover in the absence of colleagues, so you should expect to develop a working knowledge of other safeguarding sub-specialities including safeguarding unborns and adults. 

This role will require an in-depth knowledge of safeguarding and associated agendas / national guidance including application of the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act.

Support the Trust to maintain optimum standards to meet its responsibilities in relation to Safeguarding Children.

The Safeguarding Nurse Specialist is an integral member of the Safeguarding Team; the role is to support the trust to fulfil the safeguarding obligations to ensure safe and effective service provision for vulnerable children and adults in the delivery of high standards of holistic family centred care. 

To provide specialist safeguarding children advice and high-quality supervisory support to staff within WHHFT. 

To identify any practice areas or systems that may place children at risk of harm. To work with relevant practitioners to reduce the level of risk 

contribute to the Safeguarding training and to undertake audit projects, implementing findings to improve provision of a responsive safeguarding service for the Trust.

provide effective supervision, advice and support in promoting evidence-based practice to frontline staff 

assist the Head of Safeguarding to plan, monitor and implement the Safeguarding Audit programme

Support Safeguarding Children Reviews, Individual Management Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and any other reviews.

  • Ability to organise and manage own workload

  • I.T Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email

  • Experience of implementing and facilitating education and training programmes
  • Experience of managing complex safeguarding cases
  • Ability to assess competencies and skills of others and to be able to challenge traditional view and work practices in a credible and non-threatening way.

  • Educated to Masters Degree or evidence of working towards

Experience

  • Previous working knowledge and experience in safeguarding is essential.
  • Experience in and a sound working knowledge of the children Act, MCA, Prevent and the wider safeguarding agenda is required for this role.
  • Ability to analyse issues and think critically
