Employer heading
Locum Consultant Cardiologist
YC73
Job overview
University Hospitals Tees is looking to appoint a Locum Consultant Cardiologist for a 6 month period (with an interest in complex device implantation preferred) to join our existing team of 28 consultants. This is an exciting opportunity to support the cardiac rhythm management and complex device implantation team in a tertiary cardiac centre serving Teesside, Durham and parts of Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic and experienced cardiologists across all subspecialty interests. While particular interest will be given to candidates with expertise in cardiac rhythm management (CRM) and complex device implantation, applicants from other cardiology subspecialties are encouraged to apply.
The successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of high-quality cardiology services across University Hospitals Tees and will join a friendly and supportive consultant team working across both district general and tertiary cardiac services.
The post holder will join a friendly and highly experienced multidisciplinary team providing specialist and general cardiology services across The James Cook University Hospital, University Hospital of North Tees and The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
Ideally, the successful applicant will need to be in post November/December.
Main duties of the job
Candidates with expertise in cardiac rhythm management and device implantation are particularly encouraged to apply. However, applications are welcomed from consultants with other cardiology subspecialty interests. The successful candidate's area of expertise will be incorporated into the job plan wherever possible, balancing individual interests with the clinical requirements of the service.
For candidates with cardiac rhythm management expertise, the post offers the opportunity to undertake approximately two device implantation sessions each week at The James Cook University Hospital together with up to two pacing sessions at University Hospital of North Tees. The service provides a broad range of contemporary device therapies including CRT, ICD, leadless pacing and subcutaneous ICD implantation.
In addition to any subspecialty commitments, the successful applicant will contribute to the general cardiology service at The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. This will include outpatient clinics, inpatient ward rounds and management of inpatient cardiology referrals.
Participation in the tertiary cardiology consultant on-call rota based at The James Cook University Hospital is required. This currently operates as a 1:10 rota and includes overnight and weekend on-call commitments.
