Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor with a minimum of 4 years post graduate experience in acute and/or general internal medicine to join our teams in delivering high-quality senior level care to acutely unwell patients in our outlier areas. 

Weekly timetable will be discussed and agreed with the appointee and will incorporate:

·                     Outlier ward rounds

·                     Specialty work (option of Acute, Infectious Diseases, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Older Persons Medicine, Respiratory and Emergency Medicine)

·                     2:6 weekends

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties:

  • Direct Patient Care:

Specialty doctors provide routine medical and psychiatric support, including initial assessments, mental state examinations, and managing inpatients under consultant supervision.

  • Diagnosis and Treatment:

They are responsible for carrying out investigations, making diagnoses, and implementing treatment plans, including preparing discharge summaries.

  • Communication:

They communicate effectively with patients, relatives, staff, and other stakeholders, maintaining appropriate records and reports.

 Service and Professional Activities:

  • Service Delivery:

They contribute to service delivery and improvement, including attending multidisciplinary meetings and participating in audit activities. 

Working for our organisation

This new post arises from an exciting investment in the transformation of medicine and emergency care services (MECS) at The James Cook University Hospital. The MECS collaborative is made up of Acute, Respiratory, Infectious Diseases, Older Persons Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology and Emergency medicine specialties. We have 9 In Patient wards and additional beds across outlier areas.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP and GMC registration
  • Minimum 4 years of post graduate experiences
  • Minimum 4 years in general / acute medicine
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as Tier 2 medical registrar level in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • An appropriate higher qualification
  • Specialty certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide range of experience in general medicine at ST3 level
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to ST3
  • Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients and lead resident staff members
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of research or innovative service developments
  • Sub specialty experience
  • Sub specialty experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 4 years of post-graduated experiences
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as Tier 2 (medical registrar) level in UK

  • Ability to perform medical procedures expected at completion of CMT2
