Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Pharmacy Assistant – Homecare, to join the dedicated and expanding team delivering the Homecare medicines service from the Pharmacy department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust.
You will work alongside the Specialist Homecare Pharmacy Technician, Assistant Technical Officer, and the Medicines Optimisation and Homecare Pharmacist to process invoices associated with Pharmacy Homecare. Pharmacy Homecare at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a rapidly expanding area with the team providing services for a wide range of disease conditions, to over 4,000 patients.
Work under the direction of the Medicines Optimisation & Homecare Pharmacist and the Specialist Homecare Pharmacy Technician, in the delivery of the Pharmacy based elements and requirements concerning the use of Homecare as a method of supplying medicines to patients, following the approved policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
Work under the direction of the Medicines Optimisation & Homecare Pharmacist and the Specialist Homecare Pharmacy Technician, in the delivery of the Pharmacy based elements and requirements concerning the use of Homecare as a method of supplying medicines to patients, following the approved policies and procedures.
The accurate processing of homecare invoices when received from the homecare provider
The use and maintenance of electronic databases and paper filing systems, required within pharmacy for the effective management of homecare services.
Answering appropriately the homecare office phone, or emails from a range of individuals within and external to pharmacy. Referring the phone call/email and/or accurate message taking as appropriate for other members of the Pharmacy Homecare Team.
Support in the training/mentoring of other staff of any grade in all/some aspects of homecare as instructed by the Homecare Pharmacist and/or Technician
Support in the raising and processing of orders and invoices for other non-homecare medicines, that the homecare team are involved with
The use and maintenance of electronic databases and paper filing systems.
Supporting in the investigation of invoice/delivery discrepancies. Answering appropriately the homecare office phone from a range of individuals.
Referring the phone call and/or accurate message taking as appropriate for other members of the Pharmacy Homecare Team

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures and software programmes
- Excellent communication skills to effectively exchange routine information to a wide variety of staff, patients and external agencies
- Ability to deal with occasional emotional or distressing situations either face to face or over the telephone
- Be able to demonstrate good judgement when dealing with potentially difficult situations
- Proven ability to prioritise own workload effectively and to concentrate, carrying out tasks accurately and in a timely manner
- Good keyboard skills
- To be well organised and methodical when carrying out tasks
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths C or above, or Level 2 Functional skills
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant secretarial/administrative experience
- Experience of using electronic spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint and Excel
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
