Job overview
This is a substantive, NHS Consultant post with an option to work full or part time hours in Central Glan Clwyd Hospital.
The North Wales Specialist Palliative Care service is constantly evolving and this post, in conjunction with existing posts, will strengthen the Palliative Medicine Consultant team sitting within the Department of Palliative Care. The post holder will work closely with Palliative Medicine Consultants across North Wales supported by a number of Speciality Doctors and the Specialist Nursing Team.
Main duties of the job
- Being the lead clinician supporting St Kentigern Hospice, including weekly ward rounds and overseeing the weekly MDT. Supporting their Advance Nurse Practitioner team and hospice service development are additional aspects to this role.
- Holding a weekly outpatient clinic, within the Cancer Centre, for patients with malignant and non-malignant diseases.
- Support the community team with domiciliary visits where clinic attendance is not possible or appropriate. Providing medical leadership of the Central SPC team alongside the named Band 7 Hospital Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) Nurse Lead, coordinating team cover and assisting with the prioritisation of workload.
- The post holder will contribute to the 24/7 SPC (Medical) Advice Line for Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in North Wales. The frequency of on call commitments is currently 1 in 8 participation for Saturday (9am to 9am) and Sunday (9am to 9am), as well as 1 in 8 participation for weekday evenings (5pm to 9am). This is a telephone advice line, open to HCPs throughout North Wales. It is not anticipated that face to face patient assessments would be required in the out of hours period, except in exceptional circumstances.

Essential criteria
- GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview
- MRCP or equivalent
- MBChB or equivalent

- Higher degree
- Teaching qualification
Experience

- Appropriate experience in training grade posts or equivalent training accepted by Royal College/GMC for Specialist Registration
Desirable criteria
- Experience and Interest in research

- Good working knowledge and experience of up-to-date Medical Oncology
