Job overview
This is a substantive, NHS Consultant post with an option to work full or part time hours in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The North Wales Specialist Palliative Care service is constantly evolving and this post, in conjunction with existing posts, will strengthen the Palliative Medicine Consultant team sitting within the Department of Palliative Care. The post holder will work closely with Palliative Medicine Consultants across North Wales supported by a number of Speciality Doctors and the Specialist Nursing Team.
Main duties of the job
- Leading a twice weekly Consultant ward round in the Wrexham Maelor Hospital, supporting the weekly East SPC MDT meeting, and providing advice, support to, and informal teaching of hospital colleagues/teams as indicated in between.
- Attending the monthly Heart Failure/Palliative Care MDT meeting and the monthly HMP Berwyn Complex Men MDT meeting.
- Providing Medical Leadership of the East Hospital SPC team alongside the named Band 7 Hospital Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) Nurse Lead, coordinating hospital team cover and assisting with the prioritisation of workload.
- The post holder will contribute to the 24/7 SPC (Medical) Advice Line for Health Care Professionals (HCPs) in North Wales. The frequency of on call commitments is currently one in seven participations for Saturday (9am to 9am) and Sunday (9am to 9am), as well as one in seven participations for weekday evenings (5pm to 9am). This is a telephone advice line, open to HCPs throughout North Wales. It is not anticipated that face to face patient assessments would be required in the out of hours period, except in exceptional circumstances.

- GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview.
- MRCP or equivalent
