Job overview
If you are passionate about working with children and young people with a Learning Disability who are experiencing poor mental health or emotional dysregulation, we would love to hear from you. We are a highly experienced team of community based clinicians, who love our work, love our team and the families we work with.
You'll be working Monday to Friday visiting young people and families in a variety of settings offering multi disciplinary assessment and interventions as part of agreed care options and interventions. you'll have the opportunity to get involved in our various research and audit projects, participate in team learning events, training as required and service developments.
We'll offer you robust clinical supervision including the opportunity to work with other professionals and share learning, appraisal and CPD for Nurses. We have regular nurses meetings, and we are have a super supportive team culture of compassion and respect.
In return, you'll need to bring experience from a similar role as a Children and Young Persons Learning Disability Nurse, lots of commitment, and enthusiasm, and of course, a sense of humour.
Main duties of the job
As a CAMHS/LD Nurse you will be responsible for completing holistic nursing assessments, contributing to multi-disciplinary formulation and evidence based interventions for children with moderate to severe learning disability.
You will be required to work autonomously and respond to the needs of an individual caseload; from initial assessment to discharge.
You are expected to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the service; providing specialist skills and knowledge within the four quadrants of the IThrive model.
You will be liaising and providing advice, information and consultation to colleagues and other agencies as well as undertaking service governance activity, including research and audit as appropriate.
The role will include actively participating in role modelling interventions and implementing Positive Behaviour Support planning approaches.
You will be expected to participate in clinical governance and service development within the CAMHS/LD Team, in partnership with professional specialists and other clinical teams.

Essential criteria
- Current professional registration– NMC
- Professional qualification in nursing relevant to field
- Evidence of appropriate postgraduate courses and CPD to support practice, to degree equivalent level
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Evidence of experience in trauma informed practice and Positive Behaviour Support Planning
Skills and Aptitude
Essential criteria
- High levels of time management skills, working flexibly both autonomously and as part of a team with the ability to engage and network professionally
- Ability to assess, analyse, and interpret clinical information, and contribute towards making appropriate formulations and diagnosis
- Highly developed communication skills and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with families, carers and colleagues
Knowledge and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of national agendas influencing clinical practice e.g. NICE
- Working Knowledge of the mental health conditions and how this applies to learning disability.
- Good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 2015, Deprivations of Liberty Safeguards, Child Protection/Restraint Reduction, The Childrens Act 1989 (Amended 2004)
- Knowledge and understanding of medication, including challenges relating to overmedication in this patient population

- To have an understanding of the wider CAMHS service and the IThrive model of care.
