Job overview

This vacancy is open to applicants currently employed by Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, or the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced community support worker who has worked with people experiencing psychosis and other mental health conditions.

The successful candidate will be working in the new “At risk mental state” (ARMS)  team within the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service. (EIPS). 

This role will include supporting individuals to improve their mental health by working with them, their families, members of the multidisciplinary team and wider support agencies within the community.

This vacancy will be covering  Mid Cornwall working inline with the area model of care.

Main duties of the job

  • Establish and maintain effect contact with service users, their relatives and carers in order to ensure good communication.
  • Give information and assistance to service users and their carers so that they are aware of their rights, entitlements from the team and wider health and social care community.
  • Work with service users and their carers to access identified services.
  • Monitor mental health and be aware of fluctuations in mental health through observations and report changes to the team practitioners so that service users are directed to appropriate services and risk is managed.
  • Encourage social/physical activities as appropriate to the service user’s needs

We’re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people’s physical and mental health.  We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with clients who express unusual beliefs and may be experiencing psychosis.
  • Experience of working with clients with substance misuse issues
  • Experience of managing the risk associated with clients deteriorating mental health.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within a community setting in either the statutory or voluntary sector

Knowledge and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the effects of mental health issues on service users
  • A basic understanding of current National Guidelines and Mental Health Act / Mental Health Capacity Act requirements
