Job overview

Hello, my name is Rachael, and I am the General Manager for Acute and Emergency Medicine at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trusts (RCHT) leading the Care Group together with my colleagues Dr Ray Sinclair, Dr Toby Slade and Dr Laura Wesson as joint Clinical Directors and Sarah Lear, Head of Nursing.

Due to the recent expansion of the Care Group, I have created a deputy general manager position to support me in delivery of key performance, quality and financial objectives for the Care Group and Trust.

The Care Group is made up of, Emergency Medicine and Major Trauma, Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Care of the Elderly, Stroke and Neurology.

As a member of the senior management team, we will work closely together to deliver specialty, Care Group and Trust objectives, driving forward effective and efficient service delivery.

You will have a track record in effective operational management and successful delivery of financial, workforce and performance objectives.

I am looking for people who believe in personal development and have the drive, initiative and tenacity to see things through from conception to delivery.

Please take a look through the full  job description and advert, and if this sounds like an opportunity that you want to explore further, I would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact me by email  [email protected]

Main duties of the job

The Care Group Deputy General Manager is expected to support the General Manager to deliver and be accountable for the effective integrated clinical, operation and financial performance of the Care Group, working in collaboration with the multi-professional senior leadership team.

This role is responsible for ensuring national and local access targets are achieved, along with ensuring all aspects of people, performance, quality and financial objectives are delivered as per the Care Group and Trusts annual business plan. The Care Group Deputy General Manager will provide strong leadership ensuring that there are appropriate systems and processes in place to deliver objectives and drive forward the service to improve the operational effectiveness of the Care Group.

To enable them to execute this responsibility the post holder is expected to provide proactive and visible leadership.  Leadership will span four key areas; service leadership, people and personal leadership, quality leadership and collaborative leadership.

All senior leaders are expected to work as part of a cohesive team and, when necessary, to take lead responsibility for corporate issues outside their immediate sphere of responsibility in order to achieve the corporate objectives of the Trust.

Working for our organisation

visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.

We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School.

The Knowledge Spa on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site is the base for medical and nursing as well as ongoing education for health professions in clinical and non-clinical roles.
