Job overview

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated and innovative neonatal nurse to join our team as a Neonatal Ward Manager.

The base site for this role is Furness General Hospital.

Supported by the Neonatal Matron, as Ward Manager of our Special Care Unit you will have the opportunity to manage and develop nursing staff and services to provide professional and managerial leadership in the delivery of high quality, safe, cost effective care of babies, families and the team.

The individual must demonstrate our trust values and inspire and facilitate the development of staff by providing an open supportive and encouraging environment in which all staff feel valued.

The role will also require the individual to maintain clinical credibility and visibility. Shifts within the clinical rota, as agreed with the Matron, will provide opportunities to ensure clinical skills are maintained and provide a varied experience to the post holder.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a qualified in speciality neonatal nurse with significant experience at band 6 or above. You will have specialist clinical knowledge, communication and leadership skills and support the organisation in the delivery of the highest quality of care.

The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the unit and will manage and coordinate staff budget resources and the environment. You will help shape the future of the service supporting the Matron for Neonatal Services.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

Registered Childrens Nurse

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Neonatal Specialty (QIS)
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • NLS
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife on NMC
  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience of leadership
  • Evidence of setting and monitoring quality standards
  • Good organisational skills
